If your impact as a leader is lasting even in your absence, you can say you have left a legacy.
Often leaders take over their leadership role and consciously think about the impact they want to have on the organisation, on the department and on the people around them.
Then, as soon as they are in the role, business reality with all its urgencies takes over and short term business goals are in the focus.

And while you are busy leading the business you unconsciously leave a legacy.
Legacy is the end result of the actions you take and choices you make, every day.
Every day is building tomorrow’s legacy.

So next time you want to think about your impact as a leader, ask yourself:

  • What will my leadership legacy be?
  • How do I want to be remembered?
  • How are my today’s actions, decisions and interactions aligned with the legacy I want to leave?
